Zagreb Celebrates 75 Years of Athletics: Spectacular Boris Hanžeković Memorial from May 22 to 24

From May 22 to 24, 2025, Zagreb will host the 75th edition of the Boris Hanžeković Memorial, the oldest sporting event in Croatia, held annually since 1951 in honor of the tragically deceased athlete Boris Hanžeković. This year’s milestone edition will offer a three-day athletics spectacle across two of the city’s most iconic locations.

The program begins on May 22 with the traditional Ivan Ivančić Memorial, a shot put competition set against the stunning backdrop of the Zagreb fountains. The following day, May 23, the same location will host the Zagreb City Challenge, a women’s high jump competition that continues to draw increasing attention from fans and media alike. The central event of the meeting will take place on May 24 at Sports Park Mladost, featuring the main athletics meet with appearances from some of the world’s top track and field stars. More than 10,000 spectators are expected to attend and enjoy the electric atmosphere and world-class performances.

Among the confirmed participants is Ryan Crouser, world record holder and Olympic champion in shot put, who will compete at the Ivan Ivančić Memorial. The women's high jump will feature junior global sensations Angelina Topić and Jana Koščak.

To mark the 75th anniversary, a multimedia exhibition titled “An Indelible Mark in World Athletics – Boris Hanžeković Memorial” will be held from May 21 to 23 at the National and University Library in Zagreb, showcasing the rich history of the meeting through photographs, video materials, and personal memorabilia.

Tickets for the main event on May 24 at Sports Park Mladost are available via the Ulaznice.hr platform, with prices ranging from €10 to €70. More information about the full program and participating athletes can be found on the official website.
